Coming around full circle is an art form that can take some time to develop, but for Randy Niles it's something that has become a staple in his music, life, and message.
With Randy's new 2009-2010 release "Perfect" the singer/songwriter/guitarist lands his feet firmly on ground that has yet to be discovered. Digging ever deeper into his love of combining Rock, Pop, and Blues Randy creates a list of songs that are soulfully melodic, and truly captures the essence of his musical and vocal ability.
This release follows the songwriter's earlier effort "Along the Way" which kept Randy performing through the later half of 2007 through mid 2009 at mostly smaller venues, and coffeehouses. "My motto is simple, Start from the ground-up and build the strongest and most comfortable foundation you can then get ready to really do some work," says Randy Niles. This was the plan and is still his main course of action as he has been building his fan base one person at a time, gaining the respect and confidence that will ultimately open bigger doors.
One of those doors came when the songwriter/guitarist won the Emergenza Acoustic Micro-Festival in Hartord, CT and won the Emergenza Finals which saw him through 2 nights of performances at the legendary Webster Hall in New York City. Once Randy's schedule began to wind down he got right to work finishing up production on what would be "Perfect" a 5 song E.P. which showcases the singer/songwriters ability to write compelling, melodic and thought provoking songs. Once again the multi-talented artist took to the controls and over-saw his upcoming release pre-tracking and recording his songs at his home studio in Riverdale, NY.
Once complete he brought the remainder of his work to Ryoji Hata (Prodcuer/Mixing/Mastering Engineer) who's residency at Looking Glass Studios (NYC) saw his talents on albums by David Bowe, Dave Navarro, and Duncan Sheik to name a few. The two worked gruelingly for months on the 5 tunes re-tracking and recording new sections, tracking vocals, arranging rhythm sections, and bringing in fellow musician Takahiro Sokusai to track bass and additional guitar lines for the EP. Once complete, Randy knew he had a gem on his hands and a whole new wave of work to begin...
Essentially, "Perfect" defines a growth process that Randy Niles has been willingly accepting since he began conceiving the ideas for it. On the opening track "Let Go" Randy takes a new approach to lyrically voicing his feel on the world, life obstacles, and change as we perceive them, while the music dips into moments of melodic dissonance that resembles the feel of a relaxing lullaby.
He even takes a step back in his writing process favoring layers of shorter music phrases than the old approach of getting it all out in one take. This proves to be an actual step forward in his growth as an artist. "It takes courage to expose the things you once thought made you better, only to find they were just a crutch.", says Randy Niles.
With an impressive list of events for 2010 including a possible second showcase slot for the 2010 Utica Music Festival, and a tentative Spring tour in the works Randy Niles plans to open even bigger doors , possibly allowing just one more fan to enter into his newfound world of musical maturity.
